Job Summary

The Deputy Director's Team Delivers Clinical, Business And Technology Services To Clinicians And Staff To Enable The Most Efficient, Effective And Safe Patient Care To Be Delivered, In The Following Areas:

Infrastructure Services including network, physical infrastructure and telephony

Service Management and Service Desk

IT Services including End User Technology, Non-clinical Applications Management and AV/VC services

Information Security and Risk.

The team also manages key relationships with external organisations who operate as strategic partners who support service delivery and quality.

Main duties of the job

Key Aspects Of The Role Will Be To:

  • Engage pro-actively with stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective IT service management and supplier management.
  • Provide assurance that IT services are secure and compliant with relevant legislation.
  • Drive reform and support organisational change, innovation and excellence.
  • Support the Trust's long- and short-term strategic intentions by developing the infrastructure and capacity.
  • Provide expertise of best practice methodologies, regulatory requirement, and policies.
  • Imperatives, innovation and technological developments.
  • Manage key risks.
  • Ensure good financial management, including service recharging where appropriate.
  • Asset management and budget management.
  • Manage all of the departments within the IT service.

The Deputy Director of IT is responsible for not only delivering IT systems, but also planning and leading related change programmes to enable service transformation, thus maximising the benefits from investment and improving healthcare. The current emphasis is on Frontline Services Optimisation. They will also contribute to regional and national strategies, programmes and service management, taking a leading role where appropriate.

1.5 Work closely with colleagues in the health sector, importantly with Kings Healthcare Partners, the local community and University Hospital Lewisham to ensure that resources and benefits are maximised.

1.6 Oversee the maintenance and implementation of maintenance of the IT Strategy with particular emphasis on ensuring that benefits of new (and existing systems) are clearly identified, owned and realised by staff within the Trust.

1.7 Manage the ICT, systems and customer service desk teams

1.8 Ensure that the activities of the ICT, systems and customer service desk teams are properly coordinated and that resources are adequately identified and managed.

1.9 Manage the ICT operations budget and work with other IT senior managers to ensure that the ICT department meets its financial and business planning responsibilities.

1.10 Promote and improve the high quality service that the ICT department aims to deliver Have significant input into the Trusts ICT strategic direction, especially in the areas of interoperability and ICT system solutions.

1.11 Advise and recommend tactical solutions to meet the Trusts strategic ICT direction

1.12 Liaise with Chief Clinical Information officer to design and implement systems which promote effective and safe patient care. Establish meaningful working relationships at all levels with Trust staff.

1.13 Manage relationships with Trusts IT suppliers and contractors, and ensure that IT application/solution contracts represent value for money when compared to the prevailing market rates.

1.14 Work with other senior IT staff to ensure the development of the IT department and the services it offers

1.15 Deputise for the ICT Director at internal and external meetings/events when the ICT Director is unavailable

1.16 Provide an escalation path to deal with ICT issues, fitting at the level of escalation before the ICT Director.

1.17 Ensure that the Trust is meeting its obligations with regard to Data Protection and Information security.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • At least three years experience managing a range of projects within a large organisation, preferable with a service focused role.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams of staff and other managers working to a common goal but on disparate projects/tasks
  • Experience of delivery of a complex ICT service

Desirable

  • Good understanding of the NHS and the National Information for Health Strategy and involvement in the production of local (organisation) or sector wide strategies.
  • Experience of the negotiation and management of high value hardware, software, and service contracts with major suppliers, with experience of OJEC and POISE procurements.

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • The ability to produce clear, concise and accurate written documents
  • An innovative and pragmatic manager who has a track record of conceiving and implementing systems and services that have achieved demonstrable and continuing benefits for organisations.

Desirable

  • Has managed a budget of over £1m
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and pass them on to others effectively
