We are recruiting for Band 6 Biomedical Scientists across Tissue Sciences with various open opportunities. These are excellent opportunities for self-motivated individuals to join a dedicated and friendly team at Synnovis.

Main duties of the job

This role involves delivering specialist biomedical investigations as part of the laboratory team. Responsibilities include processing specimens, analyzing and releasing results, and maintaining quality systems. Reporting to the Senior Specialist BMS or Operations Manager, duties include supervision and troubleshooting to ensure successful pathology service delivery in line with corporate objectives.

You will have the opportunity to choose assignments in various areas, providing chances to learn new skills and enhance your expertise. These long-term assignments typically last 3-6 months, with potential extensions, and may be based in areas such as:

  • Cellular Pathology Department
  • Clinical Neuropathology Department
  • St John’s Institute of Dermatology

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your responsibilities include:

  • Performing routine and complex biomedical investigations following SOPs within turnaround times.
  • Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment safely, troubleshooting as needed.
  • Using cost-effective methods and managing supplies.

  • Perform and interpret biomedical investigations, participate in workload, and ensure results meet standards.
  • Maintain HCPC standards and handle patient data with confidentiality.
  • Support test development and supervise junior staff.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with all regulations and standards.
  • Utilize laboratory information systems effectively.
  • Prioritize workload to meet deadlines and quality standards.
Location

Multiple sites including GSTT, KCH, PRUH, Royal Brompton, and Harefield Hospital, offering diverse and vibrant London locations.

Person specification

Qualifications include a BSc (Hons) IBMS accredited degree, HCPC registration, and evidence of CPD. Experience should include broad-based practical skills, result analysis, and system use. Skills include understanding relevant physiology and pathology, troubleshooting, and leadership capabilities.
