Job summary

AIM OF THE ROLE:

To be anefficient flexible member of the CellularPathology laboratory providing a high quality service to ImperialCollege Healthcare Trust.

Tomaintain the required levels of laboratory safety and good laboratory practice,as specified in local and national guidelines.

To workwith biomedical scientists and clinical scientists in the provision of acomprehensive and effective Cellular Pathology servicefor the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as directed by the Head of theDepartment.

To participate in the efficienthandling, processing and analysis of samples in the laboratory, undersupervision.

Tomaintain effective records of all activities and procedures, and to contributetowards the maintenance of the laboratory's quality system.

Tocheck, keep clean and maintain laboratory equipment.

To carry out supervised laboratoryprocedures in all sections of the laboratory, as directed by the Head of theUnit and senior scientific staff.

To undergo appropriate teaching andtraining as directed and as necessary in order to maintain HPC registrationand to maintain suitable records of alltraining activities undertaken.

Main duties of the job

1.Contributes to providing a professionalclinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part ofthe overall department.

2.Able to perform all core scientific andinterpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of aRegistered Healthcare Scientist.

3. Developand improve your professional expertise.

4. Moreexperienced Healthcare Scientists will be expected to supervise unqualifiedstaff and deputise for section leaders when necessary.

5.Provides specialist clinical technicalservices to patients that may include research and audit.
