Job summary
- Build and maintain key relationships with referring services (including MDTs, primary and secondary care, voluntary and third sector organizations) to facilitate appropriate referrals and promote understanding of the role of the Speech & Language Therapist and the Multi-professional team.
- Supervise junior staff, including Speech & Language Therapists, Assistants, and students.
- Deliver services in various community settings such as clinics, clients' homes, schools, and nurseries.
- Support service development through active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), audits, and research.
Main duties include:
- Providing advice and support on the management and care of children and young people with SLCN.
- Adapting practices to meet individual client and family needs.
- Delivering Specialist Speech and Language Therapy, including evaluations for complex cases and tribunal support.
- Providing Speech and Language Therapy in line with Education, Health and Care Plans, complying with the Children and Families Act 2014.
- Managing children with challenging behaviors using appropriate strategies.

Job description
- Assess, develop, and implement Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy for children with SLCN, including specialist interventions for complex needs such as ASD.
- Handle initial complaints sensitively, aiming to avoid escalation.
- Lead specialist roles within the Education team in areas like dysphagia, autism, multi-sensory impairment, and severe learning difficulties.
- Contribute to service monitoring and development, ensuring high standards of care per national and local policies, including RCSLT and HCPC guidelines.
- Adhere to procedures related to Safeguarding Children, SEN, and other legal frameworks.
