Job description

Ambitek are looking for a competent and detail-oriented CNC Drill Operative to join our client, a structural steel fabrication company.

The role involves the operation and monitoring of CNC drilling machines to produce precision holes in steel beams, plates, and profiles in accordance with engineering drawings and production plans. This position plays a key role in the accurate preparation of steel components for construction and fabrication projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC drilling machines to process structural steel components.

  • Load and unload steel materials using overhead cranes.

  • Interpret technical drawings, CAD/CAM data, and job sheets to ensure precise drilling.

  • Monitor machine performance and adjust feeds, speeds, or tooling as necessary.

  • Carry out quality checks on finished components to ensure conformance to specifications.

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with minor troubleshooting or repairs.

  • Accurately log production data and report any material defects or equipment issues.

  • Work closely with the programming and fabrication teams to meet daily production targets.

  • Ensure a safe and organized work environment, complying with all health and safety protocols.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience operating CNC drilling or machining equipment in a steel fabrication or heavy engineering environment.

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and CNC programs.

  • Familiarity with structural steel profiles, sizes, and material handling procedures.

  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced workshop.

  • Physical fitness appropriate for working with heavy materials in an industrial setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with CNC beamline or plate drilling (Voortman)

  • Understanding of basic CNC programming or editing is an advantage.
