Job summary

Merstone School is seeking an experienced Learning Support Assistant with SEN and/ or ASD experience to support pupils’ education, care and medical needs. Full training will be provided to support pupils with medical care needs, though some healthcare experience is desirable to enhance the role.

The school serves pupils with Severe & Complex Learning Disabilities aged 2-19 years and is an outstanding setting recorded by Ofsted with Strong Standard as of March 2026.

Qualifications

• NNEB/NVQ 3/ BTEC or Level 3 childcare qualification essential
• GCSE Maths & English Pass or Reading & Writing Skills and Numeracy Skills NVQ Level 2 essential
• Ability to work positively with parents, school nurses and other professionals to improve the support for pupils essential
• SEN experience, ASD experience and positive behaviour management expertise desirable
• Recent experience of working with children in a learning environment desirable
• Medical care experience desirable
• Basic knowledge of First Aid desirable

Responsibilities

• Support pupils' education, care and medical needs.
• Work with parents, school nurses and other professionals to improve pupil support.
• Provide assistance consistent with training to pupils requiring medical care.
