Job description

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of patients with additional needs? Join our passionate team at the Dorset Primary Care Dental Service and be part of something truly special.

Get in touch to arrange an informal visit to our Special Care Dentistry clinic, based at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, or our new, purpose built, 6 chair clinic in Poole at a date/time to suit your working hours. Meet some of the team, talk us through your experience to date and discuss what the next step in your community dentistry career could look like with us.

This role primarily involves delivering a combination of special care and paediatric dentistry for referred patients, many of whom have Additional Needs. It also includes some management responsibilities, supporting clinical colleagues working alongside you. As a valued member of our clinical team, you'll provide high quality dental care to special care adults and children with various Additional Needs and/or disabilities. Our service is dedicated to assisting medically compromised patients who require treatment in a specialised setting, as well as supporting anxious children. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to bring your expertise directly to patients in their homes, nursing, and care settings.

Main duties of the job

Imagine delivering comprehensive oral health care to those who need it most, including individuals with disabilities and Additional Needs. You'll offer a full range of NHS oral health services, ensuring every patient receives the best care possible. Whether it's performing high-quality treatments under local anaesthesia, managing behaviour, or, if you're skilled, administering sedation and general anaesthesia, your role will be crucial. Your expertise in pain and anxiety management will be pivotal, especially for patients with Additional Needs.

Ideally you will have advanced knowledge and expertise demonstrated by a postgraduate dental qualification and/or relevant experience in Special Care or Paediatric Dentistry, and will contribute to the planning and development of services and colleagues, , whilst monitoring performance activity.

Based in one of our welcoming Dorset clinics, with occasional travel to other locations (domiciliary, GA where appropriate), you'll enjoy a supportive and specialised environment. If you're committed to providing exceptional and compassionate dental care, we want to hear from you to explore what your career could look like with us.

This is your chance to make a meaningful impact, grow professionally, and be part of a team that values your dedication and compassion.
