Overview

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Specialist Kidney Cancer Team as a Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP). This post is offered as an 8A for a well-established SCP, or as a band 7 developmental role with robust training to work up to an 8A level.

Main duties

The post holder will provide an expert SCP role in the Specialist Centre for Kidney Cancer. The successful applicant will have experience within the theatre environment and will work as an integral member of the Kidney Cancer and theatre team. The SCP will perform their extended role to provide high quality perioperative care across a range of robotic and laparoscopic kidney procedures. Audit and research interest is important for the role. The SCP will liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users to ensure patients receive a seamless surgical experience. They will act as a highly specialised role model and leader for all staff and contribute to the continuous development of the service.

Education & professional qualifications – Essential

  • Registered general nurse
  • Relevant First Degree
  • Masters\' degree in Surgical Care Practice (Qualified SCP)
  • Appropriate teaching certificate or extensive teaching experience
  • Advance assessment qualification (OSCE)
  • Advance communication skills course
  • Evidence of recent professional / management / leadership development
  • Basic Surgical Skills (RCS course)
  • First Surgical Assistant Course (Intuitive-Da Vinci)

Desirable

  • Non-medical prescribing course or willingness to undertake
  • Intravesical chemotherapy (mitomycin) administration course or willingness to undertake
