Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre (WMRC) as a Service Manager. WMRC provides a range of specialist rehabilitation services across the region, including Amputee Rehabilitation, Specialist Orthotics, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Birmingham Wheelchair Service, Regional Posture and Mobility Service, Access to Communication and Technology, and specialist clinics. These services are central to supporting patients in achieving greater independence, mobility and quality of life.

The role is a key part of the leadership team, working closely with the Group Manager and Clinical Service Managers to ensure safe, high quality, patient centred care. You will be responsible for the operational management of services, leading all administrative functions and acting as the main operational contact. With oversight of multiple services and budgets, you will ensure resources are managed effectively, performance is monitored, and improvements in efficiency and productivity are delivered.

The role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams at pace, balancing strategic priorities with operational demands. Success will depend on your ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day operational leadership across a range of specialist rehabilitation services.
  • Act as the main operational contact for the Centre, ensuring smooth delivery of services.
  • Work in close partnership with Clinical Service Managers and Matrons to maintain safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Lead and coordinate all administrative functions across the Centre.
  • Manage budgets, resources, rotas, workforce planning, and waiting lists to meet activity and financial targets.
  • Drive service transformation and continuous improvement, ensuring services adapt to local and national priorities.
  • Oversee and support multiple workstreams and projects, ensuring delivery to timescales.
  • Monitor performance using KPI data, capacity and demand modelling, waiting list information, and feedback, ensuring effective governance and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, commissioners, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide visible, inclusive, and compassionate leadership that supports staff engagement and development.

Role Details

The Service Manager will provide operational leadership across specialist rehabilitation services at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre. Working closely with Clinical Service Managers and the Group Manager, you will ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care in line with agreed targets and standards. You will be the main operational contact for the Centre, responsible for all administrative functions and day-to-day management of services. Key responsibilities include managing budgets and resources, rota coordination, workforce planning, waiting list management, demand and capacity modelling, and ensuring effective utilisation of clinics and appointments. The role involves driving service transformation and improvement, developing business and operational plans, and ensuring services remain responsive to local and national priorities. You will monitor and report on performance using KPIs, data, and feedback, ensuring robust governance, risk management, and compliance are in place.

A key aspect of the role will be building strong, collaborative relationships with divisional colleagues, clinical teams, corporate functions, commissioners, and external stakeholders. You will also provide inclusive and compassionate leadership, supporting staff development, engagement, and wellbeing. This is a varied role that requires managing multiple workstreams simultaneously, balancing operational demands with strategic priorities, and ensuring WMRC services deliver the best possible outcomes for patients.
