Job description

We are seeking an expert in mass spectrometry to lead our NHS UKAS-accredited diagnostic proteomics facility at the Jack O’Neill Laboratory (JONAL).

Responsibilities:
  1. Work with clinical teams under the direction of the Head of Fibril Typing and laboratory director, providing scientific and technical support.
  2. Lead and supervise staff and users in managing the mass spectrometry facility, including recruitment, sourcing, and purchasing equipment, with a focus on cost-effectiveness.
  3. Develop and validate new methods in line with research advances in mass spectrometry.
  4. Manage the diagnostic proteomic service and daily laboratory operations.
  5. Train and supervise staff, report to the Head of Fibril Typing, produce service reports, conduct audits, and attend weekly MDT meetings.
  6. Maintain laboratory accreditation, including EQA schemes, under the guidance of the head of fibril typing and quality manager.
  7. Stay updated on developments in mass spectrometry, proteomics, and bioinformatics, and revise protocols to enhance diagnosis and patient care.
  8. Develop collaborations nationally and internationally, supporting cutting-edge research.
About the Centre:

The NHS National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC) at the Royal Free Hospital specializes in amyloidosis diagnostics and therapies. JONAL is a highly specialized lab within NAC, focusing on amyloidosis and autoinflammatory diseases, integrating proteomics into routine diagnostics and research.
