Job description

A Vacancy at Barking Havering and Redbridge Univ Hospitals NHS Trust.

Barking Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trusts (BHRUT) is one of the largest acute trusts in the country and the biggest provider of acute healthcare services in NHS North East London and the City (NELC). Our dedicated workforce of 6,500 staff and volunteers serve our local population of around 750,000, from a wide range of social and ethnic groups.

We are seeking a band 6 charge nurse to join our team on Sahara B. Sahara B is a 30-bedded regional neurosurgical ward for Essex, providing care to patients with brain & spinal conditions. You will work as part of our large multidisciplinary team. We are looking for an individual to support our nursing team in delivering high-quality nursing care. If you are reliable, organized, and a good team player, we want to hear from you.

Your responsibilities will include providing focused leadership, managing staff and activities of the ward or clinical area as a supernumerary ward-based leader, acting as a role model, providing leadership, and coordinating the ward team in the clinical area. You should demonstrate advanced clinical specialist skills to provide the highest standard of individualized, evidence-based, patient-centered care while supervising others. You will have continuing responsibility for the ward/clinical area.

Our organization is continuously improving, driven by a commitment to excellence in patient care. We have recently opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH), and our CEO, Matthew Trainer, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. Our busy emergency departments serve over 330,000 visitors annually. We are campaigning for £35m to transform the A&E at Queen’s Hospital and eliminate corridor care.

Our patients benefit from the Women’s Health Hub in Ilford, the Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch, and Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch. These centres are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing an additional 88,000 scans annually.

Our staff of over 8,000 come from 146 different countries, representing diverse ethnic backgrounds. Many work flexibly, and over 400 are enrolled in Ofsted-accredited apprenticeship programs. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We plan to introduce an electronic patient record system to improve staff efficiency and patient care.
