Job overview

We have a permanent role for a Senior Contract Manager within the Contracts Team of the trust, working on a mixture of income and expenditure contracts and service level agreements.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive support service to the Senior Contract and Finance Team to ensure the Trust’s contracting function is planned, highly organised and run efficiently and effectively.

The post holder will also manage and assist in the delivery and reporting of the performance reviews, annual contract negotiation process including any external reporting functions.

You will be expected to support operational teams in developing and shaping services.

In addition, you will represent and act as an ambassador for the Trust in relation to contractual matter at commissioning meetings and other external forums as and when required, developing and maintaining a good working relationship with commissioners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:-

  • Manage a portfolio of contracts
  • Be responsible for the development and independent negotiation of new and existing patient-related healthcare income contracts
  • Facilitate and undertake contract negotiations between commissioners/provider Trusts purchasing our services and internal service directors, managers and clinicians
  • Represent the Contracting Team at internal and external meetings to discuss new service developments or new income contracts
  • Monitor compliance of contract portfolio and be pro-active in resolving emerging issues.
  • Provide specialist knowledge to operational managers, ward staff and clinicians as to the appropriate routes for securing a contract for their service, having due regard to the specific circumstances and relevant Department of Health guidance. To provide specialist contract management training if required
  • Ensure that contracts are signed and agreed within the key timetables set both nationally and by the Board of Directors
  • Represent the Trust at Contract Review meetings with commissioner organisations and service providers, ensuring that appropriate information is available and that accurate records are kept of the meetings

Essential and Desirable
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent NHS experience and relevant post graduate education
  • Substantial experience in a role involving the negotiation and performance management of contracts
  • Previous experience of staff supervision, development and performance management
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft windows and associated packages
  • Strong understanding of NHS commissioning arrangements and relevant NHS guidance and policy
  • Specialist knowledge of contracting process and contract law
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to work as an ambassador for an organisation at a senior level
  • Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex performance, legal and financial information and to draw a conclusion based upon that analysis.
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations internally and externally

You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust. The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.
