Job description

The Nursing Careers and Professional Standards Team offers comprehensive support to staff, from local induction and probation to enhancing staff training, education, and development. The post holder will work within an integrated skill mix team, including Pre-registration and Apprenticeship Pathways, International Nursing Pathway, and Preceptorship.

Main duties of the job

Avon and Wilshire's Mental Health Partnership (AWP) Preceptorship Program is a 12-month collaborative program designed to support registered healthcare professionals (Preceptees) in developing confidence and competence during their transition into new roles, with support from experienced registrants (Preceptors). This includes:

  • Newly Registered Healthcare Professionals (NRHCPs): Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates, and Allied Health Professionals
  • Practitioners returning to practice
  • Registered practitioners new to AWP
  • Internationally Educated Allied Health Professionals and Registered Nurse recruits

The Preceptorship Lead will collaborate with NCPS Team colleagues, Heads of Service, Service Leads, Preceptors, and Preceptees to further develop the program and promote its importance within AWP. For detailed responsibilities, see the attached job description.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development of the Corporate Preceptorship Program in line with the National Preceptorship Framework 2022, promoting Trust values and strategy.
  • Overseeing the preceptorship program, ensuring effective communication across AWP.
  • Implementing and maintaining preceptorship systems, supporting workforce development.
  • Engaging in effective communication and partnership working to align with national standards and NHS England agendas.
  • Leading delivery, participation, and evaluation of training days.
  • Line management of the Band 6 Preceptorship Facilitator(s) and other team staff.
  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating training programs, including statutory and mandatory training.
  • Supporting the wider NCPS Team with training and education initiatives.
  • Developing clinical links to support Preceptees' competency and confidence.
  • Managing Preceptorship resources, including the database and budget.
  • Leading the design and implementation of the Preceptor Database and reporting processes.
  • Providing ongoing support and development for Preceptors and Preceptees.
  • Collaborating with managers and clinical staff to support staff transition and retention.
  • Producing reports on program effectiveness and impact on staff retention and engagement.
  • Leading initiatives to promote the Preceptorship agenda and network development.
  • Supporting operational and strategic projects related to training and education.

Person Specification
