The successful candidate will work as part of the Neurodiversity Enfield team for children 0-6. This is a multidisciplinary team which is designed to provide a needs-led, family-centred approach for children under the age of six with neurodivergent learning needs. Initially, the role will be primarily in the diagnostic team, carrying out play-based autism assessments and ADOS assessments. As the service develops, there will be opportunities to explore other roles within the team, such as being a keyworker for a families, running MDT needs-led clinics for parents, and delivering training.
The role involves leading practice, providing specialist support to children and families, liaising with other professionals, and demonstrating a neuro-affirmative attitude to differences such as autism and ADHD.
Main duties of the job
Initially, the role will be primarily in the diagnostic team, carrying out play-based autism assessments and ADOS assessments. As the service develops, there will be opportunities to explore other roles within the team, such as being a keyworker for a families, running MDT needs-led clinics for parents, and delivering training.
The position requires a SLT capable of working effectively and flexibly within an interdisciplinary framework, engaging with various professionals in a multidisciplinary and multi-agency environment. This includes collaboration with community providers, occupational therapists, psychologists, dieticians, paediatricians, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals, as well as Experts by Experience (parents of neurodivergent children). The post holder will be responsible for fostering strong relationships and facilitating communication between the Neurodiversity Team and the SLT Community Team to optimise service delivery. Supervision of junior staff and students is a key component of the role, ensuring their development and professional growth. The role also involves contributing to the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the pathway and the Speech and Language Therapy role within it. Additionally, you will participate in service improvement initiatives and contribute to quality enhancement efforts within the team.

Education & professional Qualifications
- Degree/ graduate diploma or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
- Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration as a speech and language therapist
- Membership of special interest group
- Recognised post graduate degree and or training in a relevant area such as autism
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Experience And Knowledge
- Experience of working with neurodivergent children
- Experience of assessing children for autism diagnostic purposes
- Experience of working with other professionals/early years staff.
- Experience and evidence of supervising staff and students e.g. supervision, appraisals, performance management
- Skills in differential diagnosis and ability to offer second opinions
- Trained in ADOS
- Knowledge and experience of a range of assessments appropriate for assessing social communication difficulties in pre-school and school children.
- Skill in selection of appropriate strategies for prioritisation and management of a complex caseload independently
- Awareness of national policies and procedures relevant to health care and this specialist SLT caseload
- Commitment to ongoing training, education and mentoring to develop clinical skills
