Job Description:

We’re Hiring: Band 7 Highly Specialist Therapists

Introduction:

Words First Ltd is an innovative and forward-thinking company dedicated to providing exceptional multidisciplinary services to schools across London and the UK. Our vision is to support all staff, parents and carers to understand and accept children and young people with additional needs through high quality training and research & evidence-based therapeutic interventions across Universal, Targeted and Specialist levels in school. Our company values can be found here Words First Values, but in summary we keep children and young people's best interests at the heart of EVERY decision we make at Words First.

We are searching for SaLTs, OTs and EPs who believe in our vision and values.

We are currently hiring Band 7 Highly Specialist Therapists in the following areas:

  • OT – DCD
  • OT – Sensory Integration
  • OT or SaLT – ADHD
  • SaLT – PMLD
  • SaLT – DLD
  • SaLT – SSD

About the Role

This is more than a clinical job—it’s a chance to lead, innovate, and shape best practice in your area of expertise.

You’ll split your time between delivering clinical work in our partner schools and leading the team in your area of specialism.

The % split will be confirmed but is usually 3-4 days in school and 1-2 days leading.

Whether you love developing resources, mentoring others, delivering training, or influencing service direction—this role gives you the space and support to do it all.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead Your Specialism

This is an opportunity to lead, inspire and shape the future of one of the UK's leading and largest multi-disciplinary services for schools. You will take ownership of your area—DLD, SSD, PMLD, ADHD, DCD, or Sensory Integration. Guide our clinical pathways, share expertise, and support company-wide development. You will be the Words First representative for your area of specialism, attending and speaking at conferences, maintaining our standards in research and evidence-based resources/practices, and building our reputation in the UK as leaders in the field. You will have the privilege of time to dedicate to your own professional growth and then impart this to not only the Words First team, but to the wider SEN community in the UK.

Balance Clinical and Leadership Work

Support children in allocated schools by effectively managing a caseload. We usually allocate one school per day but in some cases you may be allocated to one school across your full clinical-allocated time.

Collaborate and Grow

We are seeking therapists with ideas and vision! Words First is an evolving and ever-growing company and we want your expertise to help shape the future of the company. You will be joining us at a high level and therefore, we are looking for experienced therapists who want to make changes to the way children and young people are supported in your area of specialism.

Inspire and Influence

You will have the chance to lead junior therapists in your area of specialism. Your expertise will be filtered down to over 160 therapists so it is vital that you believe in our vision and mission, you have the same values as we do and you are eager to impart and share your knowledge.

What You’ll Need

  • 6+ years post-registration experience in UK schools
  • HCPC registration
  • Deep expertise in your clinical specialism
  • Leadership, supervision, or training experience
  • A commitment to evidence-based, neurodivergent-affirming practice
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset
  • A confident public speaker

Why Join Words First?

  • Supportive Work Environment – Be part of a close-knit team that makes a real difference to children's lives in school.
  • Mentorship and supervision - Words First is known for the outstanding support we provide all our therapists. This is not a 'sink or swim' company; we invest a huge amount in your professional growth so that you can help us achieve our mission. Even at the Band 7 level, you will receive tailored training, mentorship and support from our Team Leaders!
  • Career Progression – Leadership, clinical and research opportunities within your pathway and a clear route for professional growth.
  • Interdisciplinary Team – Work with like-minded professionals who share a passion for transforming children’s lives. Learn from other professionals to ensure we provide a truly inter-disciplinary approach across Words First.
  • Company culture - At Words First we truly listen to our team. Your insights, advice and voice are absolutely vital to our growth and development.

Our Vision, Mission & Goal

Vision: Inclusive school environments where every child is understood and supported.

Mission: To make a difference to children’s lives in school—every single day, with heart and soul.

Goal: To deliver flexible, impactful services tailored to the unique needs of each school.

If you are truly passionate and have extensive experience in any of the areas above, if you're interested in leading and shaping the future, if you share our vision and values and want to help shape the future of SEND support, we want to hear from you!

Salary is dependent on experience and in line with local NHS salaries.
