Job description

Overview:
This dynamic and evolving role offers highly specialist therapists the opportunity to lead Words First in the specialist field of Autism. Working alongside the Director and Head of Service, you will ensure Words First builds and maintains its reputation for clinical excellence in Autism, providing therapists with access to cutting-edge research, evidence-based training, resources, and tailored support.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical (In School):

  1. Deliver specialised clinical therapy services, working with parents, carers, education staff, and multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Perform specialist assessments and develop therapy programmes using advanced clinical reasoning.
  3. Adapt your schedule to meet the needs of your caseload, schools, and the company.
  4. Provide consultation and training services related to your specialisms.

Leadership:

  1. Provide specialised supervision for therapists across schools, understanding caseload requirements, conducting onsite visits, and reviewing session plans and reports.
  2. Connect therapists to specialists, resources, and training sessions.
  3. Offer face-to-face supervision sessions and oversee clinical pathways.
  4. Plan and deliver training sessions for new starters and the wider team.

Specialism:

  1. Align your clinical specialisms with current evidence bases and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
  2. Develop a consultancy service for schools within your specialism, manage implementation, and execute assessments and reports.
  3. Create your Professional Development Plan and share your expertise with the team.
  4. Oversee content in Clinical Pathways and contribute to social media content.
  5. Represent Words First at CENs, join RCSLT/RCOT forums, and provide second opinions.
  6. Oversee projects within your pathway and collaborate on the Words First App.

Research:

  1. Identify research areas, lead projects to publication, and support therapists in contributing to research and audits.

Service Development:

  1. Attend senior leadership meetings and propose service developments.
  2. Drive the implementation of the vision within your area of expertise.

Communication:

  1. Promote research findings and contribute to social media content.
  2. Link with specialists to promote Words First and provide feedback.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  1. Passed probation or most recent appraisal.
  2. Align with Words First Therapy Service ethos.
  3. Minimum of 6 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years' experience working in the specialist field of Autism.
  4. Experience in multi-disciplinary working.
  5. HCPC registered.
  6. Training and experience in evidence-based approaches to intervention in Autism.
  7. A track record of providing a highly specialist evidence-based service for Autistic children and young people.
  8. Experience in clinical supervision, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  9. Experience in audit/data gathering for research.
  10. Enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and adaptable to changing priorities.

Desirable:

  1. Member of CEN/Interest Group related to your specialist area.
  2. SCERTS trained.
  3. Experience setting up a consultancy service.
  4. Previous experience in leading training or CPD activities.
  5. Experience in setting up research projects and audits.
