Job description

Job summary

We have created a new and unique opportunity for a dietitian with a passion for education and continued professional development to focus on delivery of these aspects of leadership across our medical and surgical dietetic teams. Using your coaching and leadership skills, this role will focus on nurturing and upskilling the dietetic team, leading on preceptorship, and expanding our training offerings to the wider multiprofessional team to improve patient care standards in nutrition and hydration.

This exciting opportunity is within the specialist medicine dietetic team, covering medical specialties including infectious diseases (for which Heartlands is a regional centre), respiratory, and cardiology. Besides showcasing your clinical dietetic skills through some clinical caseload, you will have the chance to coordinate staff development and training programs, supporting evidence-based dietetic interventions.

You will receive excellent support from the wider dietetic team to help you achieve your goals. There will be numerous opportunities for professional development, both clinically and in leadership. We are committed to improving care, quality, and the overall patient and staff experience, fostering the clinical and leadership skills of the team to maximize potential and deliver optimal outcomes.

Main duties of the job

As lead for education in the dietetic team, you will serve as an expert in training and CPD across the team and department.

This team includes many new graduates, making leadership and delivery of an excellent preceptorship program vital to ensure a positive start to their careers in dietetics. You will oversee clinical supervision of dietitians and dietetic assistants, providing coaching, shadowing, mentoring, and guidance on quality improvement projects, both in patient consultations and team development.

You should be able to work as a specialist, autonomous practitioner within the field of specialist medicine, considering chronic health conditions. Multidisciplinary teamwork will be essential, and you will play a key role in promoting nutrition and raising the profile of dietetics across the Trust. This includes redesigning patient and staff education sessions, supporting undergraduate placements, and evaluating current service delivery to enhance nutritional outcomes.

We support flexible working and work-life balance, with a focus on wellbeing through regular team events.
