Band 7 Children's Occupational Therapist
Full Time Hours: 37.5 per week
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Band 7 Occupational Therapist within the Children's Occupational Therapy service, overseeing the EHC assessment provision. The role involves completing assessments, providing reports for statutory assessments, quality assurance of reports, and participating in multi-professional collaboration through EHC panel attendance.
The post holder will work as part of a team to deliver high-quality occupational therapy services to children up to 18 years old with difficulties in play, self-care, and school activities due to various conditions.
Responsibilities include planning and delivering specialist assessments, advice, and interventions for children with functional difficulties, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, schools, and families. The role requires autonomous working within a defined clinical area, with accountability for clinical actions.
Children will be seen in diverse settings, including the Phoenix Children's Resource Centre, children's homes, special schools, mainstream schools, and nurseries.

Main duties of the job
- Providing Education, Health and Care plan assessments, high-quality reports, and reviews within statutory timeframes, keeping up-to-date with best practices in SEND.
- Overseeing the EHC assessment process within the service and ensuring quality assurance of reports in line with the SEND Code of Practice and Royal College of Occupational Therapists guidelines.
- Maintaining specialist knowledge of the EHC process, legislation, and leading on EHC and SEND practices within the OT team.
- Conducting assessments and evaluating children's occupational performance using standardised and non-standardised methods, observations, interviews with parents/carers, and questionnaires.
- Managing a complex clinical caseload, applying evidence-based and client-centred practices, including assessment, interpretation, goal setting, treatment, and advice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
- Postgraduate qualifications in relevant areas
Professional Registration
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
- Membership of the children and young people specialist section
Training
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Training in assessment and treatment of children with functional needs
- Upper limb assessment, interventions, splinting
- Post-registration specialist education, e.g., sensory integration levels 1 and 2
Specific Skills
- Ability to manage a complex caseload independently in a community paediatric setting, demonstrating initiative, organization, and prioritization skills.
- Proficiency in conducting Education, Health and Care plan assessments and reports within statutory timeframes.
- Leadership qualities and ability to empower team members, including delegation skills.
- Competence in assessing and analyzing children's functional abilities using standardised and non-standardised methods.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with sensitivity in dealings with children, parents, and professionals.
- Knowledge of child development, conditions affecting occupational therapy, and evidence-informed assessment and intervention approaches.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support new initiatives.
- Valid driving license and access to a vehicle or effective use of public transport for visits across the borough.
- Experience in assessment and provision of specialist equipment and familiarity with audit and quality tools.
Experience
- Previous community/NHS paediatric practice experience.
- Expertise in clinical assessment, goal setting, and intervention for children with complex needs.
- Experience in preparing Education, Health and Care reports and participating in EHC panels.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team leadership, supervision, and project initiation.
- Knowledge of legislation, policies, and practices relevant to children's occupational therapy and safeguarding.
IT Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, internet, email, and EMIS.

Salary: £51,883 to £58,544 per annum, including HCAS, pro rata as applicable.
