At University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), we are proud to be one of the largest maternity units in the Midlands, with around 8,400 births annually, serving a diverse population. Our dedicated team includes over 400 midwives, 34 Consultants, as well as anaesthetists, sonographers, and Neonatal experts.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bereavement Midwife to lead our Bereavement and Rainbow Services at University Hospital Birmingham. We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic, experienced midwife who will be committed to ensuring high quality, safe physical and emotional care for families through pregnancy and baby loss.

We are proud of our bereavement services and have been recognised nationally and locally for the service we provide. We are looking for a midwife with exceptional communication skills, empathy and emotional intelligence with the ability to work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and service users to create an environment of continuous learning and quality improvement.

The successful candidate will be expected to promote the values and vision of University Hospitals Birmingham through their actions and leadership, modelling these principles in how we support our teams and deliver services. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Trust's Strategy is implemented effectively within the Bereavement Service.

Main duties of the job

Professional accountability for the effective management of a team in the Bereavement Service.

Enable the delivery of a safe, caring, quality patient centred service through effective leadership and management in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.

Deliver compassionate leadership. Taking a role in ensuring all students/preceptorship colleagues and all team members receive appropriate practice facilitation and mentorship/Preceptorship.

Teamworking alongside the multidisciplinary team to lead, development and ensure effective ambulatory maternity care within the service.

Planning and co-ordinating skills to support the implementation of change and evaluation of the clinical area.

Managerial knowledge to maintain the health and safety of service users, the public and colleagues always.

To promote an environment where safety for the mother/woman and baby is paramount.

Qualifications
  • Registered Midwife (Diploma/Degree)
  • Educated to Degree level or demonstrate significant equitable experience
  • Training in Bereavement; Baby Loss
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Teaching/mentorship qualifications
  • QSIR or equivalent
  • Recognised management qualification or working towards
Experience
  • Significant experience working at band 6
  • Well documented and up to date
  • Specialist knowledge across a range of procedures pertaining to Bereavement care
  • Expert knowledge and ability to differentiate between normal/abnormal labour
  • Extensive knowledge of all areas of continuing professional development & experience
  • Recent experience in high risk care and expert knowledge of obstetric complications
  • Thorough knowledge of National Agenda for maternity transformation & midwifery legislation
  • Completed Leadership course or working towards
