Job summary

8a Clinical Forensic or Counselling Psychologist for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, Leicestershire. (Also ideal for a newly qualified Candidate interested in 7/8a Preceptorship available - contact us to discuss or if you are a CBT Therapist interested). An opportunity has arisen within our team for 0.4 WTE.

Role details

We are seeking an 8A clinical, forensic, or counselling psychologist with post-qualification experience in Learning Disabilities (LD). The successful candidate will enjoy working in this specialty or may be looking to broaden their experiences and apply transferable skills to support adults with LD.

We are a small, friendly team of practitioner psychologists dedicated to working with individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and carers. The role involves working alongside other professional groups including community nurses, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and multi-agency colleagues.

Work environment

Our services operate in various clinic and community-based settings across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, with options for flexible and hybrid/home working.

Key responsibilities
  1. Provide highly specialist clinical psychology services to adults with learning disabilities, including psychological assessments, formulation development, and interventions within the scientist-practitioner framework.
  2. Interpret complex information using extensive psychological theory knowledge and communicate findings accessibly.
  3. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams, offering specialist advice and consultancy.
  4. Work autonomously within HCPC codes of practice and local trust policies, being responsible for own professional actions.
  5. Plan and prioritize workload effectively.
  6. Lead psychological assessments and interventions, contributing to diagnosis and treatment, and provide advice and supervision to less experienced staff.
  7. Engage in audit, research, professional development, and service improvement activities.
