Job summary

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Clinical Psychologist (Band 8a) for the Adult CMHT in West Norfolk, based at Chatterton House, Kings Lynn. The role involves psychological assessments, formulation and delivering evidence-based interventions within a multidisciplinary team.

The post is permanent, full-time (37.5 hours) with flexible working as service needs allow. Salary £57,528–£64,750 gross per annum; NHS benefits apply and a comprehensive training programme is available

Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree in clinical psychology or counselling accredited by BPS.
• Supervisor training to supervise doctoral programme trainees or willingness to undertake.
• Registered or in the process of registering as a practitioner psychologist with HPC.

This post represents an exciting opportunity to join a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) serving adults across West Norfolk based at Chatterton House in Kings Lynn. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide psychological assessment, formulation, consultation and intervention for adults presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties. The team has expertise in a wide range of therapist including CBT, CAT, EMDR, DBT, Art Therapy and Lifespan Integration. The role offers opportunities to work closely with colleagues across the wider pathway, supporting the delivery of high-quality, psychologically informed care and contributing to the continued development of services for adults with complex and enduring mental health needs.

This post would suit a qualified or newly qualified Clinical Psychologist seeking to further develop their skills in adult mental health, multidisciplinary working and service development. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about delivering high-quality psychological care, confident in using research evidence and national guidance to inform clinical practice, and committed to improving outcomes and experiences for service users and carers.

For newly qualified psychologists, we can offer a comprehensive programme of support, including regular supervision, opportunities to develop skills in consultation and reflective practice, and access to relevant training.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist psychological leadership within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), promoting psychologically informed and trauma-informed approaches to care across the service.

Offer consultation, supervision, reflective practice and psychological advice to multidisciplinary colleagues to support effective assessment, formulation and intervention for adults with complex mental health needs.

Deliver specialist psychological assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions for adults presenting with a wide range of mental health difficulties, including those with complex and enduring mental health problems.

Lead and support psychologically informed approaches to formulation, risk assessment and risk management, working collaboratively with service users, carers and professional networks.

Contribute to the development and delivery of training that supports best practice, promotes trauma-informed and neurodiversity-informed care, and enhances the psychological skills of the wider workforce.

Work closely with colleagues across secondary care, primary care and voluntary sector partners to ensure joined-up care and improved outcomes for service users.

Support the collection, evaluation and use of outcome measures, audit findings and service data to improve the quality and effectiveness of psychological services.

Provide clinical placements, mentorship and supervision for trainee psychologists and other colleagues as appropriate, supporting workforce development.

Person specification

Qualification

• Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology or counselling, accredited by BPS
• Supervisor training, to be a supervisor of doctoral programme clinical/counselling psychology trainees or willing to undertake training
• Registered (or in process of registering) as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC)
• Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
• Theory and practice of specialised psychological interventions (assessment and / or therapiest)
• Experience working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist (Band 7) or as a trainee Clinical Psychologist
• Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups & clinical problems, in various settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
• Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours and exercising full clinical responsibility for psychological treatment.

Skills

• Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
• Well -developed communications skills (oral and written)
• Skills in neuropsychological assessment.

Knowledge

• Doctor level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
