Band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse - Gynaecology (Ward 2)

Job summary

Are you a dynamic innovative Nurse who can help lead a Ward? Are you ready for a new challenge? The department of Gynaecology at UHB is looking to recruit a band 6 sister to help lead our team.

This is an ideal opportunity for a band 5 staff nurse considering a step up in their career to into a band 6 role or are you an experienced band 6 looking for a new challenge with a new team?

Ward 2 is a specialist Gynaecology department caring for women undergoing elective and emergency gynaecological procedures whilst also specialising in early pregnancy problems during the first trimester of pregnancy.

We are seeking a passionate, dynamic and forward-thinking Sister to help lead our team. The successful candidate will have an interest in gynaecology and want to make a difference to patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate leadership skills, delegation, and management of staff following UHB policies.
  2. Take charge of the practice setting or defined area of the practice setting/group of patients.
  3. Ensure the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care.
  4. Act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility for the organisation and management of the practice setting.
  5. Facilitate others to develop necessary skills and experience in ward/department management.
  6. Use a range of techniques to set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research, and teaching.
  7. Support the development and implementation of audit, quality, and risk management initiatives.
  8. Teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/assessor/preceptor to nursing students, junior registered and unregistered staff.
Minimum Requirements

Applicants will need to have:

  1. 2 years post registration experience in gynaecology at Band 5.
  2. Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the team and the service.
  3. Registered Nurse (Level 1).

Person specification
Qualifications
  1. Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register.
  2. Health care management/leadership qualification.
Experience
  1. Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting/Acute NHS care setting supervising/mentoring junior staff.
  2. Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD.
  3. Demonstrable ability, experience, passion in leadership, team building, managing resources, time management, clinical governance, audit and research.
