Your Role as a Specialist Therapist

As a Band 6 Specialist Therapist at Words First, you will not only provide high-quality, child-centred therapy but also have the unique opportunity to lead and shape the clinical pathway for your area of expertise. Working alongside Highly Specialist Therapists and the Senior Team, you will ensure that Words First maintains its reputation for excellence while supporting your fellow therapists with training, supervision, and cutting-edge resources.

Your key responsibilities include:

Clinical Service Delivery – Provide expert assessment, intervention, and support for children within your area of specialism. Work closely with parents, educators, and other professionals to deliver outstanding therapy services.

Leading Your Clinical Pathway – Take ownership of your specialist pathway within Words First, driving excellence in clinical practice, training, and innovation. Ensure that therapists across the company have access to the latest research, evidence-based interventions, and high-quality resources. Work closely with the Senior Team to develop a clear strategy for service improvement, ensuring best practice is consistently applied. Represent Words First externally by engaging in CENs, research projects, and networking with specialists in your field.

Supervision & Mentorship – Guide and support junior therapists, providing specialist clinical supervision and second opinions. Help shape the skills and confidence of the next generation of therapists within Words First.

Training & Development – Deliver CPD sessions, masterclasses, and online training within your pathway. Lead Clinical Excellence Network (CEN) sessions to ensure therapists stay at the forefront of research and best practice.

Service Innovation & Research – Contribute to research projects, audits, and service development initiatives. Represent Words First in professional networks and CENs, ensuring our therapists have access to the latest evidence-based approaches.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration – Work alongside OTs, SALTs, and Educational Psychologists to provide holistic support to children and young people. Develop and implement interdisciplinary training and intervention models.
