Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join the SLT team at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. You will support patients with head and neck cancer, voice and upper airway disorders within ENT and severe asthma MDTs, with opportunities to train in surgical voice restoration, FEES and upper airway assessments.

Job description

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals Birmingham for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive and innovative SLT team at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital to provide input to patients with head and neck cancer, voice and upper airway disorders within our ENT and severe asthma multidisciplinary services.

You will work with a highly experienced MDT supporting senior clinicians in the assessment and management of ENT, head and neck patients throughout their treatment. You will also work with the regional severe asthma service providing tertiary support to patients with inducible laryngeal obstruction.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

This post would ideally suit an established band 6 wishing to expand and apply existing specialist skills in ENT. With support from highly specialist SLTs in ENT and Respiratory, you will train in surgical voice restoration, videofluoscopy and endoscopy for the purposes of FEES and upper airway assessments. You will be welcomed into a large and supportive SLT team with excellent training and development opportunities, robust supervision and appraisal system.

Qualifications

• Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
• Completion of RCSLT newly qualified practitioner competencies
• Current registration with Health Professions Council
• Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

Desirable

• Evidence of leadership training.
• Attendance at Clinical Educators Course.

Experience

Essential

Desirable

• Experience of involvement in Clinical Governance/ Audit programme
• Awareness of national drivers, policies and procedures (relevant to the client group) and their implications for SLT
• Awareness of current research relevant to the client group
• Understanding of the principles of clinical governance /audit
