A prominent healthcare institution in Birmingham is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work within the Histology Department. The successful candidate will engage in various tasks including dissection, embedding, and special stains, contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science and possess experience in routine Histology Laboratories. This full-time position offers the opportunity for professional growth and teamwork across multiple sites.
The successful candidate will work across the full range of services provided by the Histology Department, including dissection/loading, embedding, microtomy, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC). As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will follow standard operating procedures and support the implementation of improved or best practice. All work will be in keeping with the laboratory quality management system, including effective use of laboratory records, maintenance of assets/analysers, and supporting the resolution of corrective and preventative actions.
The Cellular Pathology Department is undergoing a busy period of development with upgrades to IT systems, the introduction of Digital Pathology, and a plan to develop the workforce into a range of laboratory, line management, and advanced practice roles.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a desire to progress. We are looking for a keen and driven university graduate who holds an IBMS specialist portfolio. The post holder will be based in the Cellular Pathology Department at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and will be expected to work across sites. This is a full-time vacancy of 37.5 hours between Monday to Friday with weekend shifts by rotation. It is essential you have a BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent and you must be able to demonstrate active knowledge of and experience in a routine Histology Laboratory.
