Ward 623 is a 28-bed Oncology ward, with 16 beds dedicated to adult Oncology and Haematology patients. It includes 1 access bed for elective admissions, 2 beds for Nuclear Medicine, and 12 beds for teenage and young adult patients.
We value sharing knowledge with junior staff and students. You will work closely with the senior team, leading the nursing staff and deputising in the absence of the senior nurse. Your responsibilities will include managing the ward's daily operations, providing clinical leadership, and ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.
Our clinical educators will provide comprehensive training in oncology, haematology, and chemotherapy. We also encourage attendance at university courses within the specialty. The post holder will be professionally accountable for maintaining standards and professional practice as per the NMC Code and relevant guidelines.
You will regularly take charge of the practice setting or patient group, ensuring the coordination and delivery of holistic, patient-centered care. This includes assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs.
You may act as a deputy to the person responsible for the organization and management of the ward, demonstrating leadership and developing skills in ward management. You will use various techniques to set and monitor clinical standards, conduct audits, research, and participate in teaching to improve care and patient experience.
You will support quality and risk management initiatives and act as a mentor, facilitator, assessor, or preceptor to nursing students, junior staff, volunteers, and work experience candidates, participating in clinical supervision as appropriate.
