Our department has a co-located Urgent Care Centre, a children’s Emergency Department, CDU, and SDEC service. We provide our own accredited emergency care course for both adults and children, including level 1 trauma, which can be taken at both degree and masters levels.

We recognize that training and development opportunities are vital for a happy and competent workforce. This is why we have an ED-specific Clinical Practice Education (CPE) team dedicated to the development of our nurses to support a modern career framework. You will be supported every step of the way by our senior nurses, the CPE team, and your colleagues.

We offer a variety of development opportunities, including:

  • Protected Supernumerary period
  • University Accredited Emergency Care Course (in both Adults & Paediatrics)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support / ATNC
  • Support with completing the Level 1 RCN National Curriculum and Competency Framework for Emergency Nursing competencies

As a senior staff nurse, you will be required to support the senior and junior team in ensuring the needs of our patients are met through the delivery of high-quality care. The role involves working as part of a large multidisciplinary team, including the ED medical team, clinical practice educators, safeguarding, mental health liaison team, and clinical specialties.

The Senior Staff Nurse will assist their Team Leader with managing their own team of nurses and ensuring they meet their potential. You will have the opportunity to work in all areas, including children’s ED, to increase your skill set and competency.

We are passionate about providing gold standard care for both patients and their families. We also pride ourselves on providing a positive working environment for our staff, valuing the importance of staff wellbeing and civility in the workplace.

To be successful in this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking unsupervised assessments of patient care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care
  • Communicating with patients and significant others with empathy and reassurance regarding assessment, care, and treatment
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive nursing records using appropriate documentation
  • Facilitating early discharge planning and enabling appropriate arrangements to be in place for patients leaving hospital
  • Ensuring safe custody and administration of drugs according to Trust policy and procedures
  • Supervising junior staff and ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and resources to carry out care delegated to them

We offer a range of benefits, including self-rostering, part-time positions, and flexible working. We are also in the process of expanding our busy unit with a redevelopment programme across ED, UTC, and children’s ED.
