Overview

Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist based on Specialist Neuro Rehab Unit at the LGH 0.6 WTE

A rare opportunity to join the therapy team on the Level 2a NHSE Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation unit at the Leicester General Hospital.

This post is a static post (0.6 WTE) based with the therapy team on the unit working closely with the wider specialist MDT. This Occupational Therapist will assess and treat patients with complex neurology conditions and provide standardised assessments, outcome measures along with cognitive rehabilitation and functional assessments. The role requires skills and experience in Neurology, rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to ensure the delivery of Occupational Therapy in the Neurology Team in an efficient and effective way within a fast and pressurised environment.
  • Provide key therapeutic assessments and interventions to patients in order to promote independence and facilitate optimum function for individuals, working with patients, families and carers and the multi-disciplinary team to achieve agreed outcomes for patients.
  • Increase and consolidate existing clinical knowledge in a specific clinical setting.
  • Develop basic managerial and supervisory skills.
  • Carry a clinical caseload and work to service priorities.
  • Work with patients, carers and their families in a sensitive and professional manner.
  • Work with those who may have complex needs including physical, psychological and communication difficulties.
  • Provide Occupational Therapy interventions to patients in ward-based settings, including Specialist Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, Brain Injury and Acute Neurology areas.
  • To facilitate annual appraisal and personal development planning for members of the Occupational Therapy Team and supervise team members providing professional guidance and advice.
  • To actively participate in the education and training of Occupational Therapy staff, including leading on mandatory training initiatives (e.g., manual handling, infection control, child protection, health and safety and topics related to your clinical area).
  • As Practice Placement Educators to deliver pre-registration training to Occupational Therapy students within the clinical setting.
  • To participate in recruitment and retention of Occupational Therapy staff as necessary and in the induction of Occupational Therapy staff.
  • Deliver education and training to Occupational Therapy staff as part of Team Development training and/or cascading of information following training received.
  • Undertake appropriate training and development to maintain high quality of service including Team Development training.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining up to date Mandatory training and participate in post-graduate training as appropriate.
  • Participate in post-graduate training and actively participate in the training of students and staff from other professions.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining up to date Mandatory training.
  • Participate in research and development projects as opportunities arise.
