Public Health Nursing seeks to promote and protect the health of children and young people. We do this by promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing the likelihood of ill health through delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. Public Health Nursing is central to giving children the best start in life and to reach their full potential. We offer early intervention as physical and mental health issues emerge, referring to specialist services as required.

Our teams are busy, high achieving and dynamic consisting of committed and skilled people who want to deliver the best possible care for children and their families. School nursing offer a range of services to meet the varying needs of the local population, which includes our well-developed digital offer.

The successful candidates will be flexible team players and role models who are able to demonstrate a willingness to lead, support and implement change. To achieve this, you will be committed to working in partnership with other key agencies and supporting the Public Health Nurse agenda. In return you will be supported through preceptorship with an extensive training programme. We offer excellent development opportunities and have an ethos of ‘Grow Your Own’ that can lead to the preparation and progression to the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing course.

This post requires a full UK driving license and access to a car during working hours.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)

  • To holistically assess the health and social needs of individuals in detail, to determine an appropriate plan of care and evaluate outcomes of health-based interventions.
  • Recognise indicators of abuse in children and initiate safeguarding measures in accordance with recognised policies and procedures of the Trust and Leicestershire and Rutland safeguarding children partnership.
  • To search for and identify evolving health needs and situations hazardous to health at both individual and community level and to act as a resource to promote positive health and wellbeing.
  • To demonstrate the ability to transfer previous professional knowledge and skills of Public Health Nursing; developing the ability to work effectively with sound judgement when dealing with complex emotional situations, family dynamics and difficult environments.
  • To participate and take a lead role in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme working within the Healthy Together Standard Operating Guidance Act as a resource, sign posting children, young people and families to other relevant services and empower families to access to services appropriate to their needs. To deliver evidence-based care to families in a variety of settings and locations.
  • Effective leadership and communication to manage and organise own caseload and undertake evidence-based interventions as per Standard Operating Guidance. To have skills and confidence in writing reports and making appropriate referrals to a variety of agencies and partner organisations.
