Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) is recruiting a Band 6 Rotational Physiotherapist to join the Rehabilitation Services across Moseley locations. The post offers 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract, and rotations through FES, Specialist Clinics, INRU, Stroke Unit, BNRT.

Candidates must have HCPC registration and a recognised physiotherapy qualification; neuro-rehabilitation experience is preferred.

It is essential that you have a recognised Physiotherapy qualification and current HCPC registration to apply for this post.

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a Specialist Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our physiotherapy service within the Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation Division. The post covers 12monthly rotations through the following services:

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
  • Specialist Clinics
  • Inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (INRU)
  • Stroke Unit
  • Birmingham Neurological Rehab Team (BNRT)

Rotations are based at either Moseley Hall Hospital or the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre (Selly Oak).

Join our well-established specialist teams to deliver neuro-rehabilitation to patients with varied and complex presentations in a wide variety of clinical settings. The post offers great opportunities to both utilise and develop your rehabilitation skills.

Applicants will require existing experience in neuro-rehabilitation, a holistic, goal and patient centred approach, excellent communication, organisation and team working skills. Respiratory and supervisory experience is also desirable.

Main duties of the job

· Provide physiotherapy input to the rehabilitation services on a rotational basis through participating in uni and multi-disciplinary assessment and coordination of treatment programmes for patients using these services

· Assessing patients’ physiotherapy needs, planning, carrying out and coordinating an individual treatment plan using sound clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based practice. This will include physiotherapy treatment as required alongside the provision of FES

· Providing assessment and analysis of rehabilitation, social and care needs of complex patients as part of the Inter-Disciplinary Team, referring on to outside agencies / professionals in discussion with senior members of staff

· On the In-patient Neuro Rehabilitation Unit, Moor Green and Birmingham Neuro Rehabilitation Team, involvement in key working a set number of patients in order to plan and co-ordinate their outpatient programme and act as point of contact for clients, carers and outside agencies

· Negotiating with patients and carers to agree realistic goals. Deal sensitively with clients and carers / families coping with difficult diagnoses or with long term / degenerative conditions who may have unrealistic expectations

· Supervisory responsibility for Physiotherapy students and Therapy Assistants

· Provide informative reports and discharge summaries to GP’s, social services, outside agencies and other therapy staff

Qualifications & Training
  • Grad Dip Phys / Diploma in Physiotherapy / Physiotherapy Degree
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration
  • Evidence of relevant neurological Continuing Professional Development
  • Active member of clinical interest group
Experience
  • Varied comprehensive rotations at junior grade, undertaken with significant post-registration experience
  • Experience in neurology
  • Experience of assessing complex disability including clients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, progressive neurological disorders
  • Experience of writing reports
  • Experience of manually handling patients and/or equipment safely to attain positioning necessary to perform safe and effective clinical assessments and treatments
  • Highly developed manual and palpatory skills, physiotherapeutic handling and positioning skills, gait re-education and exercise programme development skills for patients with neurological problems
  • Experience of using cognitive, behavioural and communication strategies to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and rehabilitation goals are met
  • Knowledge and understanding of the rehabilitation process
  • Understanding of community support agencies and other professions, and ability to work and liaise with them
  • Basic working knowledge of orthotics
  • Evidence of good organisational skills including prioritisation of workload and time management skills, and ability to work independently
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to date clinical trends, practices and models used in the treatment of people with neurological conditions, including evidence based ones

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.

DBS Costs

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in 3 payments over a 3-month period once you start employment. By applying for this role, you are agreeing to these deductions being made. The charges for the DBS include the administration fee. The total costs are £26.40 for a standard check and £54.40 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. For bank Workers the full cost of the DBS check (as detailed above) will be deducted from your pay following completion of your online mandatory training. No payment will be made for your online training until it is all complete and verified by the Temporary Staffing Team. Please note: You will not be able to work any bank shifts until you have completed your mandatory training, and your DBS is in place.
