Job summary

Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to support neuro rehabilitation on the Moseley Hall Hospital ward. You will work with Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists to progress rehabilitation plans for inpatients with stroke and other neurological conditions.

The role requires strong communication, IT skills, and a commitment to patient-centred care. Flexible 7-day coverage is required; NHS terms apply.

Qualifications

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy principles and the Therapy Assistant role.
  • Knowledge of OT/PT equipment and safe community adaptation.
  • Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist therapists with assessment and ongoing neuro inpatient rehabilitation.
  • Support therapy services in unit, community settings and pre-discharge home visits.
  • Provide feedback to therapists on treatment outcomes.
  • Work within the MDT to enhance neuro rehabilitation effectiveness.
  • Flexibly cover 7-day working pattern as needed.

Band 3 Neurological Therapy Assistant
Job overview

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our established multidisciplinary team on the neuro rehabilitation ward working with patients that have had Strokes and other neurological conditions such Traumatic Brain Injury. The role will include supporting inpatients with their rehabilitation at Moseley Hall Hospital.

We are looking for a dynamic, organised, and enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to work closely alongside our Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, to support and deliver progressive rehabilitation programmes, aiding our patients to reach their maximum functional abilities and achieve their goals. The role can be physically demanding but very rewarding.

The successful candidate will require good written and verbal communication skills and be computer literate.

The post holder will be supported to work through Band 3 Therapy Assistant Competencies, with training provided as required.

Please note: The split of time between working with the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams may fluctuate depending on the needs of the patients and service.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists with the assessment and ongoing therapeutic management of Neuro In-Patients. Conditions may include complex permanent disabilities, multiple pathologies, life-limiting conditions and challenging and unpredictable behaviours.
  • To assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in delivering the Therapy Service within the unit, the community and with pre- discharge assessments of patients within their own homes.
  • Reporting back to the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists on the outcomes of delegated treatments.
  • To work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, supporting registered health practitioners, contributing to the effectiveness of team working in neuro rehabilitation.
  • Ability to work flexibly across a 7 day working pattern and to provide support within the neuro rehabilitation beds as and when required.

Qualifications / training
  • BTEC (Occupational Therapy Support Workers) or NVQ Level 3 in an OT/PT Care related
Skills/knowledge Range and level of skills Depth and extent of knowledge
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the basic aims and principles of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy and the Therapy Assistant role
  • Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy skills and completion of associated competencies
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy equipment and able to assess and fit safely in the community
Experience
  • Experience as a Health Care Support Worker or Therapy Assistant in Care of the Elderly or Rehabilitation
  • Show evidence of self development and rehabilitation skills with the above mentioned
  • Demonstrate ability to work as part of the MDT
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and able to work on own initiative
  • Able to empathise with and relate to patients, carers and staff
  • Enthusiasm and recognition of the need for self development

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.

Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 6) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link , will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.

DBS Costs

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in 3 payments over a 3-month period once you start employment. By applying for this role, you are agreeing to these deductions being made. The charges for the DBS include the administration fee. The total costs are £26.40 for a standard check and £54.40 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. For bank Workers the full cost of the DBS check (as detailed above) will be deducted from your pay following completion of your online mandatory training. No payment will be made for your online training until it is all complete and verified by the Temporary Staffing Team. Please note: You will not be able to work any bank shifts until you have completed your mandatory training, and your DBS is in place.
