Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Band 6 Midwife to join our governance team. The successful candidate will:

  1. Coordinate and facilitate timely, structured reviews of perinatal deaths using the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT), ensuring involvement of relevant clinical staff.
  2. Promote high-quality, objective, and standardised reviews aligned with national guidelines and best practices.
  3. Engage with bereaved families, informing them about the review process and incorporating their feedback respectfully.
  4. Identify themes and learning points from reviews and support the implementation of care improvements to reduce future perinatal deaths.
  5. Produce quarterly reports on PMRT data, contributing to local governance and national learning initiatives.
  6. Ensure compliance with the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS) Safety Action 1.
  7. Provide comprehensive health education, psychological, and social care advice to women, including preconception care in various settings.
  8. Develop, implement, and evaluate care programs throughout antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
  9. Undertake clinical shifts (once per week).
  10. Act as a preceptor for newly qualified midwives and other staff.
  11. Work autonomously within professional guidelines.
  12. Lead coordination of the PMRT within the Trust.
  13. Collaborate with the Quality and Safety Team to ensure scheme compliance.
  14. Act as a liaison with bereaved families, supporting review processes and feedback integration.
  15. Attend the specialist PMRT clinic with the Obstetric Lead for Bereavement to discuss review outcomes.
