Job description

Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 6 Dietitian to join our team of 5 renal dietitians on a full time, permanent basis. Full renal training, clinical supervision and wider therapies support will be provided for candidates not familiar with the renal specialty, but keen to learn new competencies. The post holder will be responsible for the management of patients on the renal inpatient wards, patients on dialysis, as well as carrying a clinical outpatient caseload. The role is one of an expert practitioner who works autonomously as well as part of a team.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. To be responsible for the provision of a specialist, evidence based dietetic renal nutrition services to Low Clearance, Nephrology, Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplantation patients both in an inpatient and an outpatient environment.
  2. To provide expert advice to patients, carers, and clinicians regarding provision of nutritional support for renal patients based on clinical evidence. This will involve nutritional diagnosis, the development of treatment plans and prescription of dietary treatment and ACBS products.
  3. To interpret received information concerning medical and social history to ensure expert advice is given in a person centred, age and culturally specific way.
  4. To provide highly complex renal nutrition counselling and use of reassurance and motivational skills to overcome barriers to change particularly where there is noncompliance.
  5. To train and support members of the multidisciplinary team to allow effective use of a nutritional screening tool.
  6. Ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills to educate the diverse and multicultural renal population with barriers to understanding the essential, highly complex renal advice both on a one-to-one basis and in groups.
  7. To make clinical decisions about the appropriate and safe administration of EN (enteral nutrition) or PN (parenteral nutrition) to the patient or recommendations as to alternative nutrition support.
