What you will do:

  • Deliver compassionate, family-centred care to children and young people, ensuring their safety, dignity, and wellbeing.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, implement evidence-based care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Act as a role model and clinical expert in paediatric nursing, providing leadership and guidance to junior staff.
  • Support safeguarding processes, ensuring children are protected in line with local and national policies.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure holistic care.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with NMC and Trust guidelines.

Training and Development Focus:

  • Contribute to the review and evaluation of existing training programmes for paediatric nurses and healthcare assistants.
  • Support the development of new competency frameworks, teaching materials, and clinical skills training packages.
  • Assist in mentoring, preceptorship, and supervision of student nurses, newly qualified staff, and junior colleagues.
  • Deliver training sessions, workshops, and skills-based teaching to enhance clinical competence across the team.
  • Provide feedback to the senior nursing team on staff training needs and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure all training initiatives align with NMC revalidation requirements, Trust policies, and national standards.

Leadership and Management:

  • Take charge of the ward/unit in the absence of the Ward Manager.
  • Support safe staffing levels by allocating resources effectively.
  • Contribute to audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement projects.
  • Assist with induction and orientation of new staff.
  • Participate in recruitment, appraisal, and performance management where appropriate.
