Job Description:

Job overview

Are you looking for an exciting career in Theatres as a Recovery Team Leader? Have you got a passion for Elective Orthopaedic surgery? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and established team at Orpington Hospital, part of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to employ a Band 6 Recovery Nurse or ODP to join our busy unit in Elective Orpington Theatres. We operate Monday - Saturday between the hours - 8:00am to 8:00pm.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person to lead an experienced recovery team in our service. We are seeking a qualified professional with excellent and efficient recovery skills. You must be able to lead a team of junior recovery staff in liaison with the theatre team, surgeon, anaesthetist, floor coordinator, and ward staff.

The King’s Elective Orthopaedic Unit in Orpington is part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and provides comprehensive health care services for a diverse community. The unit consists of four state-of-the-art operating theatres, orthopaedic wards, and an admission lounge. It has been refurbished to a high standard, has excellent facilities for patients and staff, and is a short train ride into London with all its attractions.

Main duties of the job

You will have the motivation, vision, and leadership qualities necessary to lead a safe, productive, and efficient recovery team. As a key member of the team, you will support, teach, and develop junior staff and facilitate high standards of patient care in the operating theatres. Your role will also include ensuring safe patient care within the outlying anaesthetic service areas of the hospital.

You will participate in and be a role model for post-operative care of patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery. You are required to have excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, matrons, and floor coordinators. You should be a team player, empathetic, and able to remain calm and steady under pressure. A reassuring manner and understanding of patients' rights, privacy & dignity, and safeguarding are essential.

You must have an ODP qualification or be an RN1 with proven experience in these specialties. A mentorship or SSSA course is desirable. Support through a mentoring course in your first year will be prioritized.

We expect you to have clinical experience as a recovery/anaesthetic practitioner.
