Band 6 Midwife -

It's an exciting yet challenging time for the Maternity Services at Great Western Hospital as we embrace a period of improvement.

As part of this we have a number of opportunities for experienced midwives to join our fabulous team within our Inpatient services

We are looking for midwives who have experience in all birthing environments and can demonstrate kindness and compassion and are passionate about providing gold standard care to the families who choose to birth with us.

We would like to invite you to join our highly motivated and friendly Midwifery team. We are committed to providing high quality, family-centered care.

Are you self-motivated, dynamic, professional midwives with excellent communication and interpersonal skills? If so, we want you to join our proactive, professional maternity team!All posts will include shift working (inc night duty) and on call. The successful applicants will receive an orientation programme and are assured that they will receive appropriate support.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to women/birthing people and babies in the antenatal, Intrapartum and postnatal periods.

The midwifery care is provided both in hospital, birth centre and community settings including the management of individual caseloads, clients and/or ward areas.

The post holder will deputise for the Band 7 in all clinical areas. The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to integrate and fulfil all the identified dimensions.

Job responsibilities

  • To assess, implement and evaluate programmes of antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and neonatal care for women/birthing people and babies (within their family unit) in line with current evidence.
  • Provide midwifery care across the Hospital maternity, birthing centre and community settings as deemed necessary by needs of the women/birthing people and babies within your caseload.
  • To act as an advocate for the women/birthing people and babies receiving maternity care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviour/attitude ( helpful, kind, caring, compassionate and respectful) when dealingwith service users and colleagues, acts as a professional role model for other Provide parenting education,advice on health issues, and support in altering health behaviours, thereby improving health and wellbeing.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate and contemporaneous records

  • Valid Driving licence

Qualifications Essential

  • Registered Midwife with current NMC PIN
  • Practising Midwife
  • Maintained an up to date professional portfolio
  • Training in obstetric emergencies

Desirable

  • Teaching/Mentoring qualification
  • To have obtained or be studying to degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience)

Experience Essential

  • Recent experience in all aspects of midwifery practice in the UK
  • Competencies relevant to sphere of practice.

  • Experience of mentoring students

Knowledge Essential

  • A good standard of written and spoken English is required to be able to undertake the relevant duties.
  • Knowledge of current evidence based midwifery practice.

  • Ability to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of medicines management
