A leading healthcare provider in Wirral is seeking an experienced Hospice Lead Nurse to oversee the clinical delivery of care for children and young adults with complex medical needs. Responsibilities include providing leadership to the care team, ensuring high-quality palliative care, and managing staffing levels. Candidates should have extensive experience in paediatric palliative care and relevant qualifications. The position offers a salary range of £37,400 to £45,000 annually depending on experience.
TheHospice Lead Nurse (Band 6) role provides clinical leadership for the in-houseHospice Care Team, as well as providing support, guidance, and line management toa small group of staff.
We are looking for an experienced nurse who hasthe knowledge, skill, and aptitude to take the lead and responsibility in anygiven clinical situation when providing nursing care for children and youngadults with complex medical needs and palliative care. This role will work inthe off-duty hours 24/7 to either provide or support the clinical care deliveryto ensure the highest standards of care. The post holder will be capable andconfident in their clinical judgement and decision-making, taking overallaccountability for the running of the clinical shifts, which includes on-callprovision. The role will also have a small cohort of staff to support withappraisals and clinical development. For all successful applicants, adevelopment programme will be structured (approx. 2 years, depending on gaps)to achieve all aspects and qualifications required to fulfil the function ofthe role fully.
This role is ideally full-time,but part-time hours will be considered. This post works flexibly, including rotationonto nights to cover a 24/7, 365-day service.

Main Purpose of Job
This role will support the Hospice Manager and Deputy Hospice Manager in leading the in-house team and take responsibility for the 24/7 clinical delivery of safe and effective care within the hospice and in the child/YPs own home environment where appropriate, to ensure that all children, young people and their families receive high quality and effective evidence based palliative and end of life care.
The post holder will lead, manage and develop the in-house care team acting as a positive role model to foster and embed a motivating and positive culture in line with the organisational values.
Scope of Job
To coordinate and lead on a rota basis the 24/7 delivery of hospice care
To co-ordinate the care for a case load of children receiving care on a day to day basis, ensuring that all children and their families receive safe and effective care and supportive interventions to meet their identified needs
Upon completion of the Non-Medical Prescribing course, contribute to the in-house prescribing rota, ensuring safe prescribing processes are adhered to
Position of the role in Claire House
The post holder reports to the Deputy Hospice Manager and/or Hospice Manager and is accountable to the Director of Clinical Services
The post holder will have line management and clinical leadership responsibilities for a designated team of registered and unregistered staff
The post holder will work collaboratively with the Deputy Hospice Manager and with other Teams within the clinical services to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service to all children and families.

To work without supervision ensuring personal accountability in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct

Professional background as a Registered Nurse Child, Adult or Learning Disabilities
ENB 998 or equivalent
Proven experience of caring for children and young people with life limiting / life threatening illnesses and their families
Experience/Qualification in paediatric palliative care
Evidence of leadership and line management skills
Extended clinical competencies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Clinical Supervisor
Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (willing to complete)
Paediatric Clinical Examination qualification (willing to complete)

To be a competent, knowledgeable practitioner, ensuring the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for the children, young people and their families
Provide specialist nursing and clinical knowledge and advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to children and young people in collaboration with the multi-professional team
Work in partnership with parents/carers and professionals to identify the care needs of the child/young person and plan care recognising best practice and evidence based guidelines
To participate in the clinical leader on-call rota as required by the Hospice Manager
To ensure that all care is assessed, planned and delivered to the highest standard and evaluated continuously to ensure safe and effective care for all children and young people
To provide specialist advice and direct clinical care and support in relation to palliative and end of life care
To be able to undertake the mental, physical and emotional demands of the role, whilst at the same time taking care to safeguard their own health and safety as well as fellow care team members, children, young people and their family
1. Responsibility for Clinical Leadership and Practice Development
Work closely and collaboratively with the Deputy Hospice Manager, Hospice Manager and other teams across the clinical services to act as positive role models for the Hospice Care Team including volunteers
Provide visible clinical leadership to promote a strong positive culture, working closely and collaboratively with whole care team
Provide motivational leadership, coaching and support to direct reports and wider care team
To regularly meet all members of their team both individually and as a team to provide, support, coaching, monitor performance and delegate specific tasks and roles
To act as an appraiser for staff
