Job description

We are looking for a Band 6 midwife to work in the Maternity theatre team, to look after women and birthing partners on the Elective Caesarean section pathway. The main responsibilities for this role will be to provide women and babies with high-quality, safe midwifery care during operative childbirth. The care will be evidence-based and holistic, meeting women's needs in the theatre setting.

Our maternity service provides excellent care for more than 6,000 women a year. We offer great facilities and pride ourselves on the individual care and attention each woman and family receives. With a dedicated medical team of 15 consultants, women requiring specialised or complex care receive a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring positive birthing experiences where possible.

Royal Bolton Foundation Trust is committed to implementing the recommendations of The National Maternity Review - Better Births: Improving outcomes of maternity services in England. Continuity of Carer is an important evidence-based strategy for improving outcomes and experiences for women and birthing people. We believe this approach is equally important for women undergoing elective caesarean sections, and a dedicated maternity team will support this implementation.

As a senior midwife, you will advocate for women and birthing partners, support theatre etiquette, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. You will manage workload and support operational aspects of patient flow to ensure theatre lists are timely. Excellent documentation skills, maintained to NMC standards, are required. Safety concerns should be escalated to the Band 7 Coordinating Midwife or Matron.

Main duties include admitting, preparing, and caring for birthing partners on the elective caesarean pathway. This involves offering preoperative meetings, accompanying women into theatre, providing care during theatre and recovery. The role requires working in a fast-paced theatre environment, caring for multiple families daily.

We are one of the North West's busiest NHS Foundation Trusts, serving a diverse population across Bolton and parts of Greater Manchester. We are recognized as one of the region's best for several services. Our values are vision, openness, integrity, compassion, and excellence, guiding our work and patient care.

Our goal is for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust to be a great place to work, treating patients as family and friends. We employ around 6,000 staff across over 100 services, mainly at Royal Bolton Hospital and community healthcare sites. We are committed to excellent learning and development opportunities to support your career growth.

We value diversity and are an inclusive employer, seeking skilled staff who reflect our community. We offer a wide range of staff benefits, details of which can be found at Staff benefits - Bolton NHS FT.
