We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, ambitious diagnostic radiographer to join our friendly and forward-thinking Radiology team. This is an ideal opportunity for an HCPC registered radiographer wishing to increase their radiographic experience and expertise in a bustling and team-focused department.

Main duties of the job

  1. Undertake clinical work on rotation through the department under the direction of lead radiographers, maintaining high standards.
  2. Lead radiographer duties in the general X-ray area and on-call, coordinating patient throughput and supervising radiographic staff and students.
  3. Reduce patient radiation dose during examinations through collimation and positioning.
  4. Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R and IRR99, staying updated with standards and guidelines.
  5. Monitor departmental DRL and DIL, report excess doses and incidents to relevant authorities.
  6. Participate in departmental training and accept guidance as needed.
  7. Seek advice from modality leads on new or complex cases, especially when refusing examinations.
  8. Sign off competency sheets promptly and maintain competence in all signed areas.
  9. Perform complex CT scans independently or during out-of-hours shifts, including IV cannulation and contrast media administration.

Job description and responsibilities

The post involves rotating through all radiology areas, acting as coordinator and supervisor in general X-ray and CT departments. Candidates must demonstrate high competence in general X-ray and CT examinations.

Leadership responsibilities include supporting junior staff and students, initiating tasks to improve patient care, and supporting departmental aims.

Participation in a 24-hour shift rota is expected after achieving general X-ray and theatre competencies. The lead radiographer role in out-of-hours shifts is contingent on CT competencies. Teamwork, patient focus, and a proactive attitude are essential.

Skills and abilities

  • Perform high-standard plain film X-rays, including adaptive techniques
  • Conduct non-contrast and contrast-enhanced CT scans
  • Imaging for fluoroscopy/interventional procedures

Experience

  • NHS work experience; supervisory ability
  • Experience with Cath Lab and Cardiac CT imaging
  • Familiarity with Soliton RIS, Sectra PACS, and CareFlow
  • Teamwork, independence, and responsiveness to feedback
  • Patient-first approach
