Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Deputy Team Leader within HMP Birmingham to join Birmingham Recovery Team. We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals who are passionate about providing high quality and compassionate care within a unique environment.

Birmingham Recovery Team provides the clinical substance misuse service at HMP Birmingham, and the role involves assessing, planning, and treating prisoners with substance/addictions related issues.

As an integrated healthcare service, we work collaboratively with the Psychosocial team, Primary Care, and Mental Health teams. It is an exciting time for the team, and we need a dynamic and eager person to join, bringing fresh ideas and a willingness to evolve the service.

This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in leadership and management, including staff supervision and support. With ongoing changes within the prison, this is a chance to be part of those changes at a management level.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to set their own work agenda in line with the job role, Trust, and local HMPPS policies.

Applicants must be Registered Nurses capable of working in a challenging, dynamic, and recovery-focused environment.

You will need to demonstrate a range of skills, including:

  • Effective leadership and management
  • Staff supervision and appraisals
  • Rota management
  • Effective communication, empathy, self-awareness, compassion, and critical self-reflection

This role requires a minimum of 18 months experience at Band 5.

Experience working within secure and offender healthcare is desirable.

As part of the recruitment process, HMPPS security enhanced level 1 clearance is required.

The post includes an environmental allowance of £1,542 per annum.

Birmingham Recovery Team provides a 24-hour service, with shifts including:

  • Early
  • Late
  • Long Days
  • Nights
  • Weekends, Weekdays & Bank Holidays
