Job description
Overview

Band 6 Core Skills trainer- AVERTS – Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 19 October 2025.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered Health Care Professional to join an established training team to devise, develop and deliver the Trust's in house training around the reduction of restrictive practices and restrictive physical interventions. The post holder will be an experienced health care professional who has direct experience of working with individuals who access mental health services and can bring their existing knowledge and experiences to inform training delivery and implementation. The post holder will be passionate about the reduction of restrictive practices and reducing the use of restrictive physical interventions in clinical services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the design, development and delivery of restrictive physical intervention training programmes for all members of Trust staff as detailed in the Trust's training needs analysis (TNA). The post holder will be passionate about the reduction of restrictive practices and the reduction of restrictive physical interventions and will work alongside a pool of experts by experience to develop the RPI training that is provided to Trust staff. The training requires ongoing monitoring and development to ensure that it is commensurate with the Restraint Reduction Network's training standards and also meets the needs of BSMHFT. The post holder will be required to ensure that their knowledge is kept up to date and is in keeping with current best practice guidelines. The postholder will have the ability to impart knowledge and be able to coherently demonstrate restrictive physical intervention skills. The role involves a degree of physical effort and will require regular movement to and from the floor in the demonstration of the required skills. The post holder will support the RPI (AVERTS) consultants and will be required to travel across the Trust to provide on site support and bespoke training where required.
