Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking three skilled and compassionate nurses with experience in caring for children with life-threatening conditions. The role focuses on high-quality, holistic, child-centred palliative care delivered in the home settings for CYP and their families.

Applicants should be registered Children’s Nurse or Adult Nurse, show excellent communication skills, and be able to work autonomously within a supportive team.

The Palliative Care Service works alongside other Specialist Nursing Services including Children’s Complex Care and Special School Nursing teams. Main duties of the job

Are you READY for a new challenge? A new exciting opportunity has arisen for three additional skilled, motivated and compassionate nurses with relevant experience in caring for children with life threatening/limiting conditions. Our established, passionate, and dedicated Children’s Palliative Care Nursing Service delivers high quality and holistic child centred care to CYP who require nursing interventions. Focus of care will be on quality of life, supporting the child/young person and family through their palliative care journey and end of life phase whilst in their own home. We require someone who is passionate about palliative care and can make a difference to the lives of children and young people (CYP) and their family. The post holder will be required to support families to ensure all aspects of social, emotional, practical, and nursing needs are met.

Qualifications / training

• RSCN/RN Child Branch, Adult, Learning Disabilities

Experience

• Experience of working with children with life limiting/ threatening illnesses and end of life
• Significant experience of working as a Children’s Nurse either RSCN/RN Child
• Demonstrable relevant experience in Paediatric Palliative care Significant experience working within adult palliative care

Skills/knowledge

• Ability to manage team on a day to day basis in the absence of the Team Leader/Senior Nurse
• Demonstrate knowledge relating to child protection issues and procedures or those relevant to Adult Safeguarding practice
• Evidence of assessment skills and use of nursing process and nurse models
• Demonstrate sound use and application of NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional care
• Demonstrate knowledge of current legislative changes affecting NHS and Social Services particularly those affecting community care
• Demonstrate knowledge and application of current clinical trends and practices inclusive of evidence based practice in relation to Community Nursing and Palliative Care
• Ability to teach relatives,patients, clients and staff across all areas of self care and appropriate nursing practice

DBS Costs

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with the Trust will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary in 3 payments over a 3-month period once you start employment. By applying for this role, you are agreeing to these deductions being made. The charges for the DBS include the administration fee. The total costs are £26.40 for a standard check and £54.40 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for. For bank Workers the full cost of the DBS check (as detailed above) will be deducted from your pay following completion of your online mandatory training. No payment will be made for your online training until it is all complete and verified by the Temporary Staffing Team. Please note: You will not be able to work any bank shifts until you have completed your mandatory training, and your DBS is in place.
