Band 6 Charge Nurse - Fountain Way, Salisbury
1. Clinical Practice Management - To carry out clinical practice within the designated clinical areas, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients. This includes:
- Undertaking comprehensive, patient-focused nursing assessments and preparing care plans in consultation with service users to provide optimal care.
- Conducting clinical audits to evaluate and improve services in partnership with service users.
- Administering medicines following Trust and legislative guidance, such as NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and MHA 1983.
- Applying relevant mental health legislation and demonstrating knowledge of the NMC's 'Code'.
- Recognizing personal competencies and addressing limitations to ensure safe practice.
- Implementing and promoting research-based practice.
- Supervising junior and unqualified staff.
- Implementing care and rehabilitation programs and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management strategies for individuals, including ICPA/SAP for those with mental health issues.
2. Teaching, Education & Health Promotion - Utilizing specialist skills to mentor staff and promote positive mental health attitudes, including:
- Providing advice and mentoring regularly.
- Functioning as a preceptor and mentor for new staff.
- Developing junior staff through teaching and training.
- Supporting learning for students and new practitioners.
3. Continuing Professional Development - Maintaining and developing professional knowledge and skills to ensure best practice, including:
- Adhering to the NMC 'Code of Professional Practice'.
- Taking responsibility for post-registration education and CPD.
- Receiving regular clinical supervision and maintaining records of these meetings.
- Complying with Health and Safety regulations.
- Staying updated on medicines and medication management, working within NMC standards and Trust policies.
4. Finance and Workforce - Efficient use of workforce resources and ensuring safe practice, including:
- Implementing and following policies on security and safety.
- Participating in risk assessments.
- Undertaking staff appraisals and managing disciplinary issues.
- Managing staffing resources effectively.
- Ensuring safe and therapeutic service provision.
- Organizing own and team’s time efficiently.
- Taking charge of the unit in the absence of senior staff.
5. Record Keeping and Administration - Maintaining accurate records according to policies and professional guidelines, including:
- Keeping contemporaneous and accurate mental health records.
- Ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.
6. Evidence-based Nursing, Practice Development & Clinical Audit - Engaging in practice development and research activities, including:
- Participating in practice development and research.
- Involvement in audit programs.
- Ensuring compliance with research governance and standards.
7. Professional Nursing Advice - Providing professional advice within the scope of the role.
