The role involves providing continuous support to patients, managing caseloads, and collaborating with clinical teams. NHS England have developed a programme to establish Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs) to promote earlier diagnosis or to rule out cancer. This role will work independently but under the guidance and supervision of the Rapid Diagnostic Leads, to enable and support patients who are on the Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) pathway. The navigator will provide specialist advice to professionals regarding individuals presenting with symptoms that could be due to cancer. This post will also act as a named point of contact for those patients and will be an appropriate support to help deal with complex patient issues, provide a constant point of contact, provide advice, support and information for all patients referred to the RDS from referral to diagnosis or at the point they are assigned a Cancer Nurse Specialist (if a cancer is found). The postholder will have access to resources and services which will help patients to a more effective and speedy diagnosis of cancer or benign disease.
