Rate: £28,000 to £41,000 per annum
Working hours: Monday – Friday, 09:00-17:00pm
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Histology to join our client’s team in Cambridge. This role involves performing a range of technical tasks required for both clinical and research services, with a focus on histopathology. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation and dissection of clinical specimens, ensuring high standards of laboratory practice and compliance with relevant regulations.
The Biomedical Scientist in Histology will undertake technical work required for clinical and research services, including specimen preparation and dissection under guidelines from The Royal College of Pathologists. Responsibilities include prioritising specimens, participating in urgent biopsy services, and performing routine diagnostic histology tasks such as paraffin embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemistry, special stains, and internal quality control. Proficiency in using laboratory instruments, troubleshooting technical issues, and training colleagues in histology procedures is essential. The role involves participating in External Quality Assessment schemes, entering confidential patient data on LIMS, and ensuring compliance with company policies related to confidentiality, health and safety, COSHH, infection control, and local safety rules. Maintaining standards for handling clinical specimens in accordance with ISO 15189, ensuring compliance with the Human Tissue Act, and conducting appropriate quality control are also key duties. Active participation in Continuing Professional Development as required by the Health & Care Professions Council is expected.
