In this role, you will provide a high-quality, evidence-based Occupational Therapy service to patients in an acute hospital setting, playing a vital part in safe discharge planning and maximising functional independence.

What You Will Do
  • Undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessments for patients with acute medical, surgical, orthopaedic, or trauma conditions.
  • Develop and evaluate tailored treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
  • Support safe and timely discharge planning in collaboration with community teams, social care, and families.
  • Provide expert advice on adaptive equipment, home adaptations, and strategies to maximise independence.
  • Manage a caseload of complex patients, prioritising effectively in a fast-paced hospital setting.
  • Supervise and support junior OTs, assistants, and students on placement.
  • Contribute to service development and quality improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in line with legal and policy requirements.
Person Specification

Qualifications & Registration

  • BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration.
  • 18–24 months’ post-qualification experience across varied OT rotations.
  • Experience in an acute hospital or similar clinical setting.
  • Proven skills in functional assessments and discharge planning.
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant clinical areas.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and policy.
  • Effective communication and adaptability under pressure.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and teamwork.
  • Previous Band 6 or acting-up experience.
