Are you an enthusiastic pharmacist who would like to experience working in a medium secure mental health setting? Would you like to develop your clinical pharmacy skills?

This post is for a Band 6 Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist and is fully supported with progression to a Band 7 role upon completion of a development plan. This post will also include EDC as part of the on-call pharmacy team that covers the whole trust once suitable experience is gained.

You will be eager to work in mental health and develop your skills as a clinical pharmacist. The post-holder must be willing to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics from Aston University. You will be expected to work in a challenging and dynamic environment, but you will be supported throughout your career in the Trust, and will be provided with a comprehensive induction, and on-going training as relevant. Applications are welcomed from trainee pharmacists expecting to qualify in summer 2025.

Main duties of the job

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our team at BSMHFT Secure Care Services based at Reaside Clinic as a Band 6 Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist, progressing to a Band 7 role. We have funding for one full time 37.5 hour permanent position, working across all secure care sites at Reaside Clinic, Ardenleigh, Tamarind Centre & Hillis Lodge.

The BSMHFT Secure Care Service has a well-developed and highly respected pharmacy service, with input to all secure care clinical teams & wards. We are a small but friendly and highly driven team striving to provide the best possible pharmaceutical care for our service users.

We offer a wide range of experience across our four sites, totalling almost 250 inpatient beds, which comprise of men's, women's and child & adolescent secure services in addition to a growing forensic community team, therefore flexibility in approach & travel will be required to support the needs of the service. You will work as an integral part of our multi-disciplinary clinical teams, optimising medication-related outcomes for our patients. You will have opportunities for involvement in education, audits, & providing drug information and medicines management advice to patients, carers, & healthcare professionals. There is a dispensary commitment, although our dispensary is predominantly run by our technician team.
