We are looking for like-minded, enthusiastic, and dedicated Registered Mental Health nurses who share our vision and values.

Amblescroft North is a 20-bedded later life ward, offering an excellent opportunity to work with service users presenting with a range of mental health needs in crisis.

If successful, you will be involved with a supportive and cohesive multidisciplinary team caring for service users on an inpatient later life ward. You will care for your patients holistically, involving carers and relatives, and work alongside medical and therapy staff. You will be able to adapt quickly to changing situations and provide high-quality care to your patients. You should have excellent communication skills, be able to demonstrate shift coordination, and show competent nursing abilities within the clinical area to both registered and unregistered staff. You will also demonstrate effectiveness in ensuring continuity of care and implementing trust policies.

Main duties of the job

To carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high-quality, evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, interventions, and evaluations for patients are provided. This will include:

  • Undertaking comprehensive, person-centred nursing assessments and preparing care plans in consultation with service users to provide optimal nursing care.
  • Implementing care and rehabilitation programmes.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of care provided in partnership with users.
  • Applying research-based practice.
  • Following successful completion of preceptorship, supervising junior and unqualified staff.
  • Administering medication within relevant Trust and legislative guidance, e.g., NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010 and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
  • Undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management strategies for individual clients, including ICPA/SAP, for people presenting with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrating a working knowledge of key elements of relevant mental health legislation.
  • Ensuring the ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medication comply with relevant trust and legislative guidance, e.g., NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and MHA (1983).
