Job description

We are looking for a Band 5 Nurse/newly Qualified Nurse to complement our existing nursing team and work within our dynamic and friendly Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide high quality care to children with a variety of conditions including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopaedics, plastics and ENT. St Marys Hospital is a designated children's and adult major trauma centre with a dedicated 24/7 children's emergency department and a specialist High Consequences Infectious Diseases service. Staff are supported by a thorough induction programme which is both classroom and ward based and includes supernumerary time to ensure staff are fully prepared for working in an intensive care environment. We also offer continuing educational and professional development from our education team. We are committed to ensuring that all staff have a positive work experience which enables and supports them to provide the best possible care for the children and families.

Main duties of the job

Job purpose:

  • The post holder will work with the ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the ward team.
  • The post holder will provide direct quality patient care to high dependency and intensive care level patients.
  • Following the preceptorship period, the post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise unqualified and adaptation staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
  • To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NMC Registered in Paediatrics
  • RSCN or RN
Experience
  • Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic IT skills
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Awareness of the 6 Cs and their application in practice
