Job description

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses with a genuine commitment to working with older people to join the comprehensive Older Adult Mental Health service on the beautiful Island of Guernsey, in the Channel Islands.

The Unit is a 15-bedded ward dedicated to care for patients with behaviours that challenge. This opportunity is open to Mental Health or General/Adult Nurses.

Please note: Guernsey has adopted the AfC banding system but has applied its own salary scale.

The current Band 5 salary range is £38,744 to £49,970, plus an annual bonus of £1,605 and higher unsocial hours enhancements; 36% evening/Saturday and 72% Sunday/Public Holiday.

Annual leave starts at 36 days up to 42 days, with full credit for NHS service for annual leave and sick leave.

The island of Guernsey, with a population of 65,000, features some of Britain's finest beaches, a mild and sunny climate, and a historic harbour town in St. Peter's Port, the island's capital.

This unique integrated health service provides a diverse range of healthcare services within the hospital and supports the wider community.

The Older Adult Mental Health Service includes four in-patient centres, from assessment wards to later-stage dementia care, as well as Community Day Services.

They have recently launched an Island-wide Dementia Framework to make the island Dementia Friendly, ensuring older residents are valued and treated with dignity and respect.

All of this relies on recruiting nurses of excellent calibre to a very high standard.

Person requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with valid (Mental Health or General/Adult) NMC Registration.
  • At least one year UK experience in an older adult Mental Health setting.
  • Passionate about working with older people who display complex behaviours that challenge.
  • Desire to work in a team and organisation committed to person-centred care and giving you time to care.
  • This post may also be open to enthusiastic UK-trained graduate Nurses with specific interest and placement experience in Older Adult services and a genuine interest in further development in this sector.
